Delicious bars combining sweet apples, buttery crust, and rich salted caramel, perfect for a delightful dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 4 cups peeled and diced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (for caramel)
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter (for caramel)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt (for caramel)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, melted butter, rolled oats, cinnamon, and salt until crumbly.
  3. Pour the mixture into the lined baking dish and press it firmly into the bottom to form an even crust. Bake for about 10-12 minutes.
  4. Toss the diced apples with lemon juice, granulated sugar, cornstarch, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until well coated.
  5. Spread the apple mixture evenly over the crust, then sprinkle the reserved crumb topping over the apples.
  6. Bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the topping is golden and the apples are bubbly.
  7. Cook the sugar in a saucepan over medium heat until it turns an amber color, stirring constantly.
  8. Add in the butter and stir until melted, then gradually add the heavy cream while stirring until smooth.
  9. Sprinkle in the sea salt and stir to combine, then let it cool slightly.
  10. Allow the bars to cool completely before drizzling the salted caramel on top, then chill in the fridge for about 30 minutes.

Notes

For a gluten-free option, substitute all-purpose flour with a gluten-free blend. Customize with nuts or different apple varieties for varied flavors.
