Description

A succulent Thanksgiving turkey recipe that promises a juicy and flavorful centerpiece for your holiday feast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 whole turkey (10–12 pounds)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups bread cubes (preferably stale)
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 2 cups celery, diced
  • 3 tablespoons fresh sage, chopped (or 1 tablespoon dried sage)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh rosemary, chopped (or 1 tablespoon dried rosemary)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried thyme)
  • 4 cups chicken or turkey broth
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • Optional: 1 cup dried cranberries or apples (for added flavor in stuffing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Remove the giblets and neck from the cavity, and pat the turkey dry with paper towels.
  2. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced onion and celery; sauté until tender, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Combine sautéed onion and celery with bread cubes, herbs, salt, pepper, and optional fruits in a bowl. Gradually pour in the broth until stuffing is moist but not soggy.
  4. Stuff the turkey cavity with the prepared stuffing. Avoid overstuffing.
  5. Tie turkey legs together with kitchen twine and tuck wing tips under the body.
  6. Season the outside of the turkey with salt and pepper. Optionally rub more softened butter on the skin.
  7. Place the turkey breast side up on a roasting rack in a roasting pan. Pour 2 cups of broth into the pan.
  8. Roast in the oven, basting every 30 minutes until turkey reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C).
  9. Remove turkey from oven and let it rest for at least 30 minutes before carving.

Notes

For healthier alternatives, consider using olive oil instead of butter and gluten-free bread for stuffing.
