Homemade Cranberry Sauce

  • Author: emily-mitchell
  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

A vibrant and tangy cranberry sauce that elevates holiday meals, perfect for turkey, stuffing, or as a unique condiment.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz fresh cranberries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water (or orange juice)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Rinse the cranberries under cool water, discarding any that are soft or shriveled.
  2. Combine the sugar and water (or juice) in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Add the rinsed cranberries to the boiling mixture and return to a boil.
  4. Reduce the heat to a simmer and cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens.
  5. Stir in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt after turning off the heat.
  6. Cool the cranberry sauce before transferring it to a container, allowing it to thicken further in the fridge.

Notes

Consider substituting honey or maple syrup for sugar or adding spices like cinnamon for a seasonal twist.
